Why use analysis view in Business Central?

You don't always have to jump into Excel or Power BI to analyze your data. With analysis view in Business Central as a user, you get direct access to the company's financial and operational details – right where the numbers live.

The analysis view is an effective tool for fast, structured and data-driven insight – perfect for ad hoc analysis and follow-up:

Analysis view is a really powerful tool for ad hoc analysis. Where before you had to export data to Excel to analyze, you can now simply create your view and save.”

This is how the analysis view works

With the analysis view in Business Central, you can work with data as a list or in a pivot table known from Excel:

  • Drag-and-drop columns: Define which dimensions and measurements you want to analyze.
  • Show tables in related tables: If your view only contains the customer number, you can add your name or other fields from the customer table in your analysis view.
  • Filter by period, customer, department, product + more.
  • Save views for repeated use and share them with your team.

For example, if I want to do the same analysis just for another department or product group, I can just change the filter.”
Morten Seifert, Development Lead, KOLLAB

All without exporting data or waiting for IT to create new reports.

Get answers quickly with data you can trust

The finance department needs precise and quick answers. Analysis display in Business Central ensures:

  • Direct access to real-time data from accounting, sales, storage and project modules
  • Consistent data sources, which matches what the rest of the organization sees
  • Minimal risk of error compared to manual extracts in Excel

You make decisions based on the same data that the bookkeeping records in.

Examples of what you can analyze

With the analysis view, you can quickly examine:

  • Development in revenue per customer group over the past 6 months
  • Which projects or departments have the highest cost level
  • Where in the company the coverage rate has fallen significantly

In other words: You get both an overview and the opportunity to trade – without unnecessary intermediaries.

Combination with other tools

The analysis view is ideal for quick questions and continuous checking – but not a substitute for in-depth analysis:

  • Use Power BI for visual dashboards and trend analysis
  • Use Excel for scenarios and budget simulations
  • Use analysis view for the daily follow-up and detection of deviations

When the three tools play together, you get a complete and flexible analysis engine – tailored to make the right decisions.
