Important deadlines and requirements
There is a clear timetable for when the rules come into force:

• October 2025: Producer responsibility comes into effect – payment and environmental graduation starts
• November 2025: Ongoing reporting begins (monthly at > 8 tons/year, quarterly at < 8 tons/year)
• June 2026: First reporting of actual packaging quantities for 2025 (applies to recycled packaging)

All companies that bring packaging or packaged products to the Danish market are covered – both for disposable packaging and recycled packaging, as well as for all types: sales packaging, multipack/secondary packaging and transport packaging.

NOTE: Failure to register or report can result in fines or imprisonment for up to 2 years. It therefore pays to be ready in good time.

How to become compliant: step by step

1. Register your company with DPA (Danish Producer Responsibility).
2. Choose a collective scheme that can handle reporting and payment on your behalf – e.g Packaging trip, ERP Denmark or VANA.
3. Record your products and packaging data (weight, material, type).
4. Report continuously – monthly or quarterly depending on quantity (> or < 8 tons/year).
5. Report annually the actual quantities you have put on the market.
