PPCD

For PPCD, we have completely turned up the ease of use in the calculation tool greenStruct. With a loving UX overhaul, the user experience is now sharper and more efficient. At the same time, we have built the website with a more sustainable foundation and a modern visual design.

We have calculated it, and the result was not only an upgraded digital solution, but a project that ran all the way to the finish line and secured greenStruct a UX Nordic Award in 2024.

Challenge: PPCD had a technically strong calculation platform, greenStruct, but found that the complicated and heavy user experience made the tool difficult for users to use, which hampered the adoption and efficiency of the calculation process. Therefore, the goal was to simplify and improve UX/UI without compromising on functionality, so that users could more easily complete calculations and get value from the tool.

REDESIGN THAT DOES NOT COMPROMISE

PPCD is behind it greenStruct, an online tool for calculating concrete structures, where CO₂ reduction and resource optimization are at the center.

Although the ambitions were towering, the user experience felt too complicated, and this created distance from potential users. Therefore, it became our task to breathe new life into greenStruct.

We have redesigned and made a technically heavy process a simple and user-friendly journey, without compromising on quality.

FROM COMPLEX TO RAZOR SHARP

In order to meet PPCD's desire for a razor-sharp and more sustainable website, we implemented a number of concrete measures. We worked strategically with PPCD's fixed color palette, which we have used from the start without changing it, to create a modern and harmonious expression.

Here we also switched from light to dark web design to reduce energy consumption, as the dark designs use less energy than light ones. At the same time, we limited the use of visual material and the number of pages to support PPCD's sustainability agenda.

KOLLAB (formerly /et al.) has carried out a very professional investigation and evaluation of our website and software. Based on this, they have prepared comprehensive improvement proposals for the design of the user interface (UI), and user experience (UX) using optimized workflows. These improvements will not only improve the experience of using our software, and help ensure satisfied users (increase retention rate / reduce churn rate), but also help with easier and automatic onboarding (increase number of new users).

User tests

We initiated the process of user testing of the tool among five potential customers in the industry. Here we gained insight that the path to the final output required too many clicks and steps.

The challenge

The heavy process became a barrier, which in some cases caused users to drop the calculation altogether. The task therefore became to design a solution that provided easier access to output while maintaining users' full control.

Redesign of greenStruct

We redesigned the flow in the calculation tool and created a more intuitive UX as well as a cleaner UI. The process was run in close collaboration with PPCD's development team, who continuously implemented our design proposals.

Increase in customers

After launching the new calculation tool, PPCD experienced a significant increase in customers, indeed the number increased by 130%, as they could highlight a better user experience and a maintained control as unique sales parameters.

UX Nordic Award

Based on the successful redesign, we set greenStruct for a UX Nordic Award in 2024. The project ran all the way to the finish line and ensured that greenStruct won.

Website redesign

After the UX Nordic Award, we redesigned the website with sustainability as a focal point. We modernized the visual identity and developed a web design that now combines a purely visual expression with sustainable principles.
