Scandic Pelagic

In the northern coastal town of Skagen, you will find Scandic Pelagic, a dominant force in the production of herring fillets. With an impressive 100,000 tons of herring processed each year and a large market share in Poland and Germany, Scandic Pelagic stands firm as one of Northern Europe's largest producers of herring fillets. But behind the impressive facade of success lurked challenges that needed to be addressed to ensure the company's continued growth and compliance with changing legislation.

Challenge: Scandic Pelagic was faced with a complex and outdated NAV 2009 solution that could not handle new regulatory requirements and modern operations, making it difficult to ensure traceability, compliance, and efficiency in their production. Therefore, it was necessary to modernize to a cloud-based ERP platform tailored to the food industry in order to future-proof processes and improve operational efficiency.

A system change with an eye to the future

For years, Scandic Pelagic's enormous production has been managed by the outdated NAV 2009 system, which was otherwise tailored to fit the herring factory's unique needs.

But with new regulations on the way and a new accounting law on the horizon, management realized that the old system was no longer adequate:

"We probably couldn't comply with the new rules with our 2009 version," explains Jan Gram, the company's IT manager.

In a time of many changes and challenges, Jan Gram saw his opportunity to reach out to the ERP partner from KOLLAB (formerly Notora). As specialists in food-specific ERP solutions, KOLLAB offers the expertise that Scandic Pelagic needed to modernize their processes and ensure compliance with legislation.

After a thorough analysis of the options, the solution was found: a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Online solution and Aptean's "Food & Beverage" applications.

This integrated solution promises not only to optimize Scandic Pelagic's traceability processes, but also to change the way the company operates its production.

By automating and digitizing workflows, Business Central-Online and Aptean's products will minimize the need for manual spreadsheets and create more efficient and streamlined operations. In addition, it will enable hundreds of employees to benefit from these apps, which will improve communication and collaboration across the company.

Efficiency in one click

This will have an impact on the herring giant's employees, who will enjoy a more intuitive and user-friendly workflow, as Jan Gram explains:

"Instead of being stuck behind a computer with NAV2009 on the screen, our employees can now use a tablet on-site and pass on important information with a single tap. In addition, the implementation of scanners in our trucks will give us complete control over inventory, which will put an end to manual inventory management," he explains.

Over the years, Jan Gram has worked closely with the people behind KOLLAB, and when he finally tries to put the collaboration into words, he finds three words:

"Propriety, honesty, and competence!"

Digital foundation for the future

According to Jan Gram, these values have formed the basis for a solid partnership and have also been crucial to the successful implementation of the solution at Scandic Pelagic.

With KOLLAB at its side, Scandic Pelagic is ready to embrace the future with confidence and security in its processes. Through digital transformation and a focus on traceability and efficiency, Scandic Pelagic will continue to lead the way in the maritime food industry and ensure continued growth and sustainable success.
