At the North Jutland fish dealer, a lot of unnecessary waste of resources was recorded on, among other things, manual typing, which removed focus and time from the company's core values: service level, quality and wide range. A problem that one of the owners, Thomas Sekkelund, wanted to overcome in order to focus again on the virtues on which KYST was created.
Challenge: KYST faced extensive manual typing, poor product traceability and fragmented handling of attributes, attachments, inventory management, label management and payments, creating waste of resources, low visibility and hampering the company's ability for efficient operation and growth.
MORE THAN FISH
Blue mussels, tusk, fjord prawns, fjæsing, catfish, monkfish, sea trout, halibut, halibut, and whatever else the Skagerrak contains of culinary sea pearls. At KYST ApS, which is based in the fishing town of Hanstholm, the existential basis is based on love for the sea, and the ambition lies in being more than just a fish shop. Being a connection between coastal and sustainable fishing and kitchens around Denmark is a vision that is very close to one of the owners, Thomas Sekkelund:
“We want to spread the good fish from the west coast throughout Denmark ” KYST is Danish fish of the highest quality, delivered with thorough guidance and close contact,” he says.
The optimization of product traceability leaves room for focus on core values
At KYST, they sell everything in fresh and frozen fish to restaurants, canteens, schools and retail, where a focus on an extremely high level of service is paramount. A customer's special wish or need is never rejected, and the actual processing of the incoming orders for all fish from the range is carried out at the local factory in Hanstholm. The fish is delivered with its own refrigerated trucks on the same day that the fish was bought at auction.
But at the North Jutland fish dealer, a lot of unnecessary waste of resources was registered on, among other things, manual typing, which removed focus and time from the company's core values: service level, quality and wide range. A problem that Thomas Sekkelund wanted to overcome in order to once again focus on the virtues on which KYST was created.
Problems with the management of general product traceability
KYST runs the company with the ambition of a well-oiled and simple company that does not confuse either customers or employees. Values such as honesty and transparency permeate the work ethic at all stages of the company. But precisely internal problems with a clear transparency of product traceability have been a hindrance to growth dreams:
“We had great problems managing our general product traceability, and it required an enormous amount of manual work before KOLLAB (formerly) Notora came in,” explains Thomas Sekkelund further, who, with the implementation of KOLLAB's specific and dedicated “FastFood 365” solution, has set the course for the company's internal workflows towards a more manageable and overview-forming operating system.
In addition to product traceability issues, KYST also experienced challenges in handling attributes, document management, product management, label management and payments. The challenges were presented to Notora's expert team, and from the first contact Thomas Sekkelund had the feeling of being in service-minded and welcoming hands, an ERP solution provider with a focus on KYST's specific key challenges:
“We have received very careful help and operation based on all our experienced challenges (trace of goods, attributes, attachment handling, product management, label handling and payments). It's a big system and we still learn the easiest paths through Business Central every day. It is clearly product tracking, inventory management and label management that have made our working day easier by acquiring this solution”, he elaborates.
Although the new operating system requires time to gain familiarity with, the owners and the employees are optimistic, the help has not been longer than a single phone call away.
Ongoing service and professionalism
Thomas Sekkelund will not paint a pink glossy image of the implementation of a new control system that takes extensive action. It takes time to familiarize employees with the system, but through sent SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure), it has been easy to look up a workflow, and then solve it via the available documentation. SOPs are a set of step-by-step instructions prepared by an organization to help workers perform routine work tasks. The purpose is to ensure efficiency, quality output and uniformity, while at the same time reducing miscommunication and complying with industry regulations.
According to Thomas Sekkelund, the key to good cooperation lies in the professional and service-minded craftsmanship, which he has been met by through his ongoing inquiries.
“It is clear that the “FastFood 365″ solution was a ‘let’ approach to a conversion where they could combat 90% of our total challenges, and already here we were a long way from the start. COLLAB (former. Notora) could quickly explore our needs, then make a clear offer where the final price did not differ from the original offer. The market for ERP solutions is diverse, but many other providers with very high starting prices and these just to open a ‘final’ offer”
